This early 80’s coffee table top was stolen fron a two-tier table that was hopelessly wobbly..
The original table was dis-mantled, wood legs discarded ( put in a pile to use on other projects) and custom hairpin legs were built.
It is sturdy once again, half the weight it once was and beautiful…
The old finish was a dark brown stain paint, before that it was a red stain on the veneer.
After all the old finishes were sanded off, along with most of the scars from another life, a dark walnut stain was applied under a paste wax top coat.
This table is big, 52 inches long by 32 inches wide, it sits at 19 inches tall for a nice footrest height in front of the couch.
The scratches and dents simply could not be sanded out all the way, i think it ads character, like grey hair and wrinkles, the tell a story of a hard life.
